Steps to Connect a Battery Bank

Safety Precautions

  • Read the Manual: Before starting, read the user manual for the GT160K PLUS to understand the specific requirements and recommendations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves and safety goggles, to protect against electrical hazards.
  • Work in a Safe Environment: Ensure the area is dry, well-ventilated, and free from flammable materials.

Gather Required Tools and Materials

  • Battery bank (ensure it is compatible with the UPS)
  • Appropriate cables (check the gauge and type recommended in the manual)
  • Battery connectors (if not included with the battery bank)
  • Tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)

Prepare the Battery Bank

  • Check Battery Voltage: Ensure that the battery bank voltage matches the UPS input requirements (e.g., 480VDC).
  • Inspect Batteries: Check for any physical damage or leaks in the batteries.
  • Charge Batteries: If the batteries are new, ensure they are fully charged before connecting.

Connect the Batteries

  • Identify Terminals: Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on both the battery bank and the UPS 160kVA.
  • Connect in Series or Parallel: Depending on the required voltage and capacity, connect the batteries in series (to increase voltage) or parallel (to increase capacity).
    • Series Connection: Connect the positive terminal of the first battery to the negative terminal of the second battery, and so on. The last battery’s positive terminal will connect to the UPS positive terminal, and the last battery’s negative terminal will connect to the UPS negative terminal.
    • Parallel Connection: Connect all positive terminals together and all negative terminals together. Connect the combined positive to the UPS positive and the combined negative to the UPS negative.
  • Secure Connections: Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent any loose connections that could lead to arcing or overheating.

Connect to the UPS

  • Locate Battery Input Terminals: Find the battery input terminals on the GT160K PLUS.
  • Connect Cables: Using the appropriate cables, connect the positive terminal of the battery bank to the positive input terminal of the UPS and the negative terminal of the battery bank to the negative input terminal of the UPS.
  • Double-Check Connections: Verify that all connections are correct and secure.

Power On the UPS

  • Turn On the UPS: Once all connections are made, power on the UPS according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Monitor for Issues: Observe the UPS display for any error messages or warnings. Ensure that the system recognizes the battery bank and is functioning correctly.
